Legendary Tribune columnist Bob Verdi often described the XRT Golf Outing as ?longer than most wars.? Today?s outing is at beautiful Lost Marsh Golf Club in Hammond. This weekend is the U.S. Open where the course?s degree of difficulty is turned up so much that we get to see accomplished pros whiff in the rough. Just like we do. So my musical playlist turns to the stupidest game ever invented. Robin Williams? profane reverie on the original description of the rules remains the standard.
There is a CD called ?Golf?s Greatest Hits? which includes such classics as J.F. Knobloch?s ?Golf?s A Bitch, And Then You Die? and Pete Shoemaker?s ?Bogey Bob.? By classics, I mean I only excerpt them when my bosses are all on vacation.
Here are 18 songs to help you recover from 18 holes.
Alice Cooper-I?m Eighteen. ?Alice is a well-known hustler on the links. Well, I guess you can?t be both ?well-known? and a ?hustler.? But he has game. And the song title reminds us, you have to play all eighteen.
