Large-scale checking of alert status is under way in Eastern Military District

MOSCOW, July 14 (Itar-Tass) - Military units of the 36th army of the Eastern Military District have been put on top alert as part of a campaign to check the combat readiness of the troops of the Eastern Military District, the press service and information department of the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday.

The current checking of the alert status of the Russian Armed Forces is believed to be the biggest in post-Soviet history. It started at 01:00 Moscow time on July 13.

The 5th tank brigade of the 36th army of the Eastern Military District deployed in Ulan-Ude, the capital of Buryatia, is to march to the Tsugol testing ground in the Chita region.

"Two military railway echelons, each consisting of 23 flatcars, are re-deploying about 100 armored vehicles of the tank brigade while over 60 wheeled vehicles are already making a 1,100-kilometer march,? the source clarified.

Upon arrival at the destination the servicemen will have to set up field camps, carry out a set of measures to disguise their positions, organize their protection and defense, ensure logistics support and carry out engineering works and reconnaissance, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
