Apple has rolled out a fix for bugs affecting the iPhone 4S, ostensibly ending weeks of poor battery performance and shonky 3G connectivity for users.
Owners of the fifth-gen phone began reporting problems with their handsets on Apple forums after downloading the iOS 6.1 software bump, which landed towards the end of January.
Mysteriously, other Apple devices, including the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 as well as the mini and standard-sized iPad, are seemingly largely unaffected. Although some piqued iPhone 5 owners, whose sweary, frustration-flecked testimonies we?ve come across on Apple?s forums, might beg to differ on that front.
Today, salvation arrived for owners of the iPhone 4S at least, after Apple rolled out the iOS 6.1.1 iteration of its smartphone operating system to tackle the glitches. The upgrade, which comes in at 968MB, can be downloaded directly from Apple or directly to owners' phones.
At the time of writing, the upgrade, which Apple in its characteristically dry idiom said will fix "an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S?, is not available for other devices.
Apple?s rollout comes after Vodafone yesterday urged iPhone 4S users on its network to give iOS 6.1 a wide berth, in a rather shaming incidence of a network seemingly washing its hands of Apple?s software.
