7 Christmas Gifts for Writers | Carman Online Content Publishing

Christmas is right around the corner, the number of shopping days left before the big day is dwindling away, and panic is beginning to set in for those of us that believe we can get away with waiting until the last minute to get the gifts we need. If someone special in your life happens to be a writer (there is a good chance of that, given how much freelance writing and blogging has increased in popularity in the last few years), and you?re struggling for something to buy them, here are a seven gift ideas to help you out:

7. A Mug

It?s a bit of a clich? to say that writers drink a lot of coffee, but in most cases they do, and a mug will come in very handy. You could buy a writer a mug with an image of his or her favourite character on the side, a message that lets everyone know exactly what they do for a living, or you could go the whole hog and create a personalised mug, either way you?re on to a winner.

6. Massage

Writers often sit at their desks for up to 10 or 12 hours a day, typing away oblivious to the outside world. Of course, this is what they love to do, but even the most comfortable of office chairs cannot prevent tension on the back, neck, and shoulders. Speaking as someone who would love this gift for themselves, a voucher or gift certificate for a professional hour-long massage would be a definite pleaser.

5. Magazine Subscription

Most writers like to sit down with a magazine on a break; find out what they like to read and treat them to a 6-month or 1-year subscription.

4. A Tablet

A tablet is great gift idea for a writer. No, I am not talking about paracetamol and ibuprofen (although they often come in handy to!); I am talking about tablets of the handheld computer variety. The Amazon Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7 are both priced at less than ?200 and feature thousands of apps that a writer will find useful for work and play.

3. Chocolate

Working away on those articles and blog posts all day is pretty hungry work, and although they shouldn?t, most writers love a chocolaty snack. Why not treat them to a basket full of their favourite little pleasures? A?Basket of Bliss specialises in specially made baskets full of the most popular chocolate bars ? you can?t go wrong!

2. Flash drive

Flash drives are relatively inexpensive and come in all shapes and styles ? they are also incredibly useful for writers. There is nothing worse as a writer than losing a piece of work that has taken you hours, days, or even weeks to complete, a flash drive will ensure that all work can be backed-up in the event of computer malfunction. There are also pretty useful for taking work out and about without having to lump around the laptop.

1. Books

Every writer loves to read, so buying them some books, or a gift card to buy some books, is guaranteed to please. If you know the types of things they like to read, the shopping task is going to be easier, but even if you don?t, a gift card for Amazon or W H Smith will go down equally as well.

There you have it, a list of gifts that will please any writer. If I may throw a personal suggestion in to the mix ? a MacBook Pro would be very well received on Christmas Day. No? Fair Enough. Have a great Christmas!
