Welton Arthur to win the Corrs Christmas Stayers from the fourth trap
The first heat of the Grade OR Corrs Christmas Stayers has attracted a wide mix of talent as all of them have not emerged from the identical backgrounds. The 660 metres flat race will be hosted by Sheffield on Monday, 24th December, 2012. Competing to take over the ?150 prize money are, Bansha Jax, Farloe Brainy, Cape West, Welton Arthur, Storming Coco and Russelena Nani.
Trap two, three, four and five are well seasoned at the open level while Bansha Jax and Russelena Nani are racing the debut tonight.
Welton Arthur and Farloe Brainy are the 6 to 4 joint favourites for the race.
The three-year-old, Welton Arthur, has been racing since the previous season and has thrived under the supervision of trainer, E. Parker.
He has won open contests that were over more distance than he has to race in the stayers first heat. Head Bound?s son has a hat-trick at Newcastle over 670 metres in late September and early October.
The black hound was the favourite winner as it took him 41.02 seconds to reach the wire. The blue trap got crowded when racing in the first position and his running in got the better of the rest of the lot. He defeated Swabys Princess by just half-length.
Welton Arthur had his very last two trips at the same level and over the distance that awaits him tonight.
The E. Parker trained seized the winner?s prize money in the Sheffield Stadium Stayers on 6th December, 2012 at Sheffield over 660 metres.
The favourite entry raced in the white of the third trap. He captured a disputed lead which came back to him once he was barging in from the second position. It took him 41.70 seconds to complete the trip.
Storming Coco, who is still the part on the line-up, clocked the distance in the same time and shared the success.
In the most recent outing, Welton Arthur could not grab the lead and missed the winner?s prize money by 1 ? length. The race on 13th December was won by, Farloe Brainy, in 40.10 seconds, who took off from the second trap.
